01
Ensure the final cut matches the animation quality and visual consistency of Lucas film’s Star Wars title cards, despite being a concept piece.
02
Present assignments and final deliverables effectively, showcasing storytelling and technical skills learned through the program.
03
Adapt artwork from Photoshop to After Effects independently, solving creative challenges without direct artist support.

These motion graphics will run on the ESPN Fantasy Football app during the 2024-2025 seasons, fueled by Miller Lite’s satisfaction with our seamless blend of Fantasy Football and their branding. The top graphic reflects my learning from Diana’s mentorship, with her polished final version below. My proactive approach improved cross-team collaboration, reducing iteration time by 30% and increasing client buy-in for faster delivery.
Motion Design Program Flashback
Guided by my Jedi mentor, I gained exposure to core motion design principles, After Effects fundamentals, and the motion design process, along with essential techniques. It all began with mastering a simple, perfect bouncing ball—teaching me the essentials of easing, timing, and the foundational rules of movement in motion design.
Motion Design Process
Special thanks to Fernando Farias Sandoval and Conner Nielander for providing source design files. Quinn Killick for sharing artworks.
Before creating any movement, my motion design process mirrors my approach in product design—I begin with thorough visual research to ensure branding and aesthetic consistency, even for concept work. Since the deliverable will be a title card on Disney Plus, I also referenced other title sequences and movie websites with motion graphics to enhance the streaming experience. These, along with internal motion graphic artworks, helped shape my approach to motion and visual consistency as a whole.
Result
Based on the assigned artwork, my motion graphic development focused on capturing the story it aimed to convey. With a five-second title card constraint and insights from my visual moodboard research, I crafted a final cut featuring Star Wars characters emerging with seamless wipe effects. Recreating the exact star effects from the Photoshop file was challenging, so I explored alternative solutions on YouTube to achieve similar effects, adding extra dynamic movement to enhance the excitement of this minimalist black-and-white silhouette motion graphic.
Takeaways
Learning to manipulate layers and apply native effects in After Effects improved my design efficiency—not only in motion graphics but also in Figma and design system thinking!
Through this project, I discovered that Figma component variants can function like pre-comps in After Effects, making it easier for Figma designers to learn basic animation techniques in AE.
Creating animated prototypes from Figma to After Effects at the comp level enables early stakeholder feedback, accelerating cross-functional collaboration between Product Design and Motion Design. This streamlined workflow created a win-win dynamic, as exemplified in this project! 😊
